I have heard about oil pulling for many years but was always hesitant to try it. It just felt “yucky” to think of oil sitting in my mouth. But recently I decided to give it a try and was very pleasantly surprised. It was pretty easy, the time passed quickly and my mouth and teeth felt really clean and refreshed. I’m hooked and I am happy to share this amazing practice you.
So what is this weird oil pulling anyway???
It is a health practice that has been used for thousands of years. It is a popular Ayurvedic remedy that is great for detoxifying and cleaning your mouth, teeth and gums.
Here is how it works:
Do it first thing in the morning BEFORE brushing your teeth
Put a tablespoon of oil in your mouth
Make sure you use natural organic unrefined oil
Some good oils to use are olive, coconut or sesame
I like coconut because of it’s pleasant sweet taste
And it’s also anti-bacterial, an added bonus
If the oil is solid it will melt in your mouth quickly
And then you swish the oil in your mouth for 20 minutes
Just like mouth wash
Use a timer!
The oil bonds with and “pulls” toxins, bacteria and parasites
From your mouth, teeth and gums
Giving them a thorough cleanse
DO NOT SWALLOW
The oil will be full of toxins and bacteria
Relax while you’re swishing
You can read, journal, check Facebook
But don’t do anything active
When the 20 minutes are up
Spit out the oil into the garbage
Not the sink, as it can clog your drain
Rinse your mouth with warm water
Brush your teeth
And voilà!
You’re done, fresh and clean!
These are some of the health benefits of oil pulling:
~ Stronger teeth
~ Stronger gums
~ Reduction of bleeding gums
~ Prevention of cavities and gingivitis
~ Relief of migraine headaches
~ Clearer skin
~ Clearer sinuses
~ Fewer colds
~ Fresher breath
~ Hormonal balance for women
~ Relief of swollen joints
And it is an excellent tooth whitener!
No need to pay for tooth whitening products.
So give it a try
And let me know how you liked it!
