Autumn is knocking on the door and with it, chilly winds, falling leaves and cold season. Drinking a hot cup of bone broth is one of the most nourishing and healing things that you can do, it tastes amazing and it is so easy to make.
Bone broth has long been touted as a cure all and for a good reason. It has tremendous health benefits and it is high in minerals like calcium, magnesium and phosphorus.
~ It is easy to digest and filled with minerals and vitamins
~ It improves and heals the digestive system
~ It supports healthy joints and reduces inflammation.
~ It promotes healthy hair, skin and nails.
~ It helps alleviate allergy symptoms.
~ It builds strong and healthy bones and teeth.
~ It strengthens the immune system and helps the body fights cold and flu.
~It is great for adults and children.
During the autumn and winter it is a great idea to have a cup of broth daily.
You can make chicken, beef or fish bone broth. You can purchase bones from a butcher store or use the leftover bones from your meals. Please use only organic, free range, grass fed or wild bones. You do not want to drink a broth that is filled with hormones, antibiotic and other harmful toxins.
Here is a basic bone broth recipe, feel free to create your own version.
Put in a large pot leftover bones from an organic roasted chicken
Add a large onion, peeled and chopped
2-3 carrots, chopped
Broccoli and cauliflower, washed and cut into florets
A bunch of parsley, washed
5-6 cloves of garlic
Any other vegetables like celery, zucchini, winter squash, parsnips, turnips…
Plenty of water to fill the pot
Salt and pepper to taste
Any other spices you like like, turmeric, curry, cumin, paprika…
Add a splash of vinegar, that will help the minerals leech out of the bones and into the broth
Bring to a boil
Cover and simmer for 4-6 hours
Strain the broth, discard the bones and vegetables, all the nutrients will be in the broth
Store in the fridge for a few days or freeze
It’s a good idea to make a big batch so you can have this yummy and healing broth when you need it.
Enjoy!
