your body talks to you
constantly
in whispers
in inner nudges
in a quiet voice
that tells you
what it needs
to heal and thrive
and if you don’t listen
it gets louder
and then it talks to you
in discomforts
aches
indigestion
fatigue
it is trying to get your attention
to tell you
‘hey! you need to make different choices
you need to love me
and care for me
in a different way’
and if you don’t listen
it gets louder still
and then it shouts
in chronic disease
in serious illnesses
in addictive behavior
in pain
both physical and emotional
it shouts
‘can you hear me now?’
don’t wait
listen now
listen with love
listen with willingness
listen to the whispers
Oh so true! That was the experience I had. I have since learned to listen to the subtle nudges. Much more pleasant than shouts!
Yes Nicole, so much more pleasant and more effective too.
Ahhh yes our body never lies and always lets us know where we are. Just came home from a vacation with my sweetie and I really decompressed. So instead of hitting the ground running and going into 5th gear, I’m easing into my week. Listening and heeding the message my body is giving me.
Excellent Debra, I love easing into things.
When you put it in verse it is easier to listen! 🙂 Yes, the body talks all the time, and we have to take the time to listen before it is too late. Every little ache is a warning. Of course, we should not panic and grab a pill to “kill the pain”, but we need to understand that our body needs attention. Sometimes a headache is just a sign to slow down and take a break in nature, to allow our body to recharge… Beautiful poem, Rachel.
Oh, that’s so true. And that listening can mark the beginning of major life changes. Thanks!
Love it presented this way! So true!
What a great post! Right now my body is telling me to make a nice hot cup of green tea and put my feet up!
The body is wise and so it’s wise to listen to it 🙂
